Garry Monk will lead the Swans out at Anfield on Saturday with the memories of one of his worst football memories in his mind<\/p>\n
Monk was part of a Southampton side hammered at Liverpool 7-1 back in 1999 and Monk wants to banish the ghosts from that game on Saturday.<\/p>\n
He told the Western Mail\u00a0\u201cIt was my worst experience in football<\/p>\n
\u201cIt really was one to forget \u2013 but I can\u2019t.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was only a young lad at the time and had played a couple of games before.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019d played against Everton and then been in the side that beat Wimbledon at home at The Dell, so I\u2019d kept my place.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut the whole team was poor and everything they hit went in. I had a bad game and at 19 I needed support around, but we were awful and it wasn\u2019t there.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was embarrassing and it really left a mark on me. It\u2019s something I still think about to this day and before every game I have a little word with myself and promise to never let it happen again.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s been a motivation since because no-one wants to go through that.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s been plenty of occasions in my career when I\u2019ve been down and disappointed, but no-one wants to be embarrassed as I was that day.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s been a motivation for me, but they are also memories I want to put right.<\/p>\n
\u201cAfter Bolton pulled one back we showed we can grow from our experiences.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf we\u2019d thrown that one away like we did at Wolves then it could have left a scar.<\/p>\n
\u201cInstead we showed that we\u2019ve dealt with what happened and we\u2019ve moved on from it.<\/p>\n
\u201cNow we have to build on what we\u2019ve done away from home.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt doesn\u2019t matter if it\u2019s Liverpool. They are a fantastic team, a fantastic club with a fantastic history \u2013 but we go there looking to win.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve been to Man City, Arsenal and Chelsea, so we know what to expect.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe feel we\u2019re growing into things and we want to grow further.<\/p>\n
