Ashley WIlliams will line up in the last game of the season tomorrow saying that the lack of egos in the Swans dressing room is a big reason behind their success this season<\/p>\n
Written off by many at the start of the season, victory tomorrow could see the Swans record a Top 10 place in the Premier League – a remarkable achievement for a side that was given no chance of promotion let alone survival.<\/p>\n
“I think that core of the team and the dressing room has come through at times this season,” said Williams in today’s Western Mail<\/p>\n
“If you’ve never played in the Prem obviously you don’t know what it’s like. I’ve often sat at home and slagged off this defender or that player. Then I thought, when we get there, we can see what it’s like ourselves.<\/p>\n
“We’ve got on with things and stayed grounded. A lot of us have been at the other end of football.<\/p>\n
“There’s no big egos because we’ve had that grounding and that helps us come together and get on with the job.<\/p>\n
“We knew people would write us off, but that didn’t really motivate us<\/p>\n
“In my three seasons in the Championship, we were supposed to get relegated every time or at least struggle. We never did.<\/p>\n
“It’s something we’re used to. I think it’s just the nature of the game. Being down here in Swansea that happens and whoever comes up this year will probably be the same.<\/p>\n
“An important game was probably Villa away. That opened our eyes a bit and gave us a bit more belief,” said Williams, reflecting on the campaign.<\/p>\n
“As the season went on, after the first month, we decided we were here, we’d enjoyed the first few games, but we could give it a go.<\/p>\n
“We could actually play well and pick up points because until you play in it, you don’t really know what it’s about.<\/p>\n
“We had enough confidence in our ability that we could pick up points and do well.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
