Monk who saw \u00a0a proposed summer transfer to Bristol City fall through due to a back injury\u00a0has insisted he will not give up on his career at Swansea City without a fight,Monk who was believed to be not wanted by Michael Laudrup played his first game of the season at Crawley Town on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
Speaking to todays South Wales Evening Post Monk said:<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ll never give up, I\u2019ve never done it from the start and I won\u2019t do it in my time here,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve been injured for about five weeks and there\u2019s been speculation about a loan to here, there and everywhere, but my injury dictated things.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m just thankful to be able to get a run-out because I\u2019ve got to get back and fit, build on this game and see where it takes me.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve said all along I don\u2019t want to leave the club and hopefully I can force my way into the manager\u2019s plans in some capacity in the first-team squad.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf it\u2019s not to be we\u2019ll have to assess it again in the future, but right now I just want to get fit.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ll assess it later down the line, perhaps January, perhaps sooner than that, it depends on how good I feel over the next few weeks,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf I can get a few weeks\u2019 training under my belt and it looks like I\u2019ve got absolutely no chance then I\u2019ll have to really have a look at it.<\/p>\n
\u201cJanuary is probably the more realistic one if I\u2019m not involved at all by then, but hopefully I will be.<\/p>\n
\u201cI can only do what I did at Crawley and try to improve in training, to push the boys who are in front of me and see where it takes me.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ll keep pushing, but also know I have to be realistic.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m not saying I should be starting Saturday, but it will be nice to push a bit harder and see where it takes me.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s what I want in my mind, but also being realistic I know it\u2019s down to what the manager wants.\u201d<\/p>\n
Michael Laudrup added:<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was great that Garry could play 90 minutes.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe had some cramp at the end, but not enough to stop him jumping for the corner!<\/p>\n
\u201cI am happy for him and I am happy for the other players as well because it gives them a good feeling.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is a boost for those players as well as the team.\u201d<\/p>\n
Monk in the meantime thinks:<\/p>\n
\u201cWe were disappointed after Everton because it was our poorest performance in a long time, especially in the first half where we did things we\u2019ve not done for a long, long time,\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s not for a lack of effort ever, but we made some individual mistakes, we didn\u2019t play as much as a team as we can and we got punished by a good side.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe also realise Everton are in good form at the moment so we can\u2019t get too down about it, it\u2019s about how we react and we reacted well at Crawley.<\/p>\n
