Steve Cooper has claimed that he had spoken to the FA over the appointment of Andy Woolmer as referee before Wednesday’s 1-1 draw with Sheffield Wednesday at the Liberty.<\/p>\n
Referee Woolmer will have done nothing to endear himself to the Swans boss when he ruled out what looked like a winning goal for Kasey Palmer in stoppage time, blowing for a foul on a goalkeeper.\u00a0 A foul that clearly never was.<\/p>\n
Add to\u00a0 that a foul on Palmer that left the Swans player with a gash on his calf that the Swans team thought should have seen a red card brandished and Cooper’s claim that Woolmer’s decisions were “personal” may have some truth to them.<\/p>\n
Speaking though of the goal that never was, Cooper told Wales Online after the game “Apparently it was a foul on the goalkeeper that he blew the whistle for. Good luck in writing about that one, whatever it was.<\/p>\n
“But it was a performance I predicted from the official and one that I spoke to the governing body about a few days ago. My prediction was right.<\/p>\n
“One thing was for sure, that, whatever the decision was, it was not going to us. It’s personal unfortunately.<\/p>\n
“I spoke on the phone to the FA.\u00a0 There were a few warning signs with the appointment, and maybe my gripe isn’t just with the performance on the pitch, maybe it’s with how he came to be here.<\/p>\n
“I don’t want to say too much, because we know who loses in these situations, and it’s me and the club with a fine.<\/p>\n
“I thought I knew where things were going to go tonight, and sometimes I don’t get things right, but I did with this one.”<\/p>\n
