It’s also more about supplying the three behind the striker and starting attacks more than finishing them off, which is thing I have done most over the years.”

His Ipswich goal came on his debut for the club and he added “I do class myself more as an attacking midfielder and if you look at my stats over the last few years you can see how good I can be. I feel like I have still got a lot more to show here.

“I want goals, I want assists, I want to create chances. With the squad we have got, I have no doubt that will come.”

The link with Swansea seems an obvious one – the goal and assist tally, albeit at a lower level would add another option to the squad and of course he has played with Martin before. However, local press around Milton Keynes spoke back in the summer about cracks in the relationship following a 29th minute substitution against Doncaster although Martin dismissed it at the time “We had a good chat and it’s all good.

“It’s something that happened, he has apologised. He regrets what happened, as do I. It’s not ideal but I do love him, he’s a great guy, a fantastic player and he’s a really important part of what we’re doing.

“I’ve got no issues with Scott whatsoever moving forward and the way he has responded has been brilliant.”

Fraser was left out of the Dons next game but was back in the side after that, scoring 3 goals in their last 9 games of the season suggesting that it was, as Martin had suggested, water under the bridge.

I would suggest that this story has more substance than your average transfer link and with the Swans boss known to be on the hunt for a new midfielder (see links with James McAtee) then you have a player here who sits within our likely budget and has the stats to back up his ability. Whether he could take a step up to the Championship will be the unknown but our previous links (in our Premier League days) suggest that his talent could be above League One level so keep a close eye on progression here.

What are your thoughts ahead of the January transfer window? Catch up with all the latest news and speculation in our transfer window thread here

The Swans are being linked with former MK Dons midfielder Scott Fraser who played under Russell Martin last season before joining the Tractor Boys back in the summer for an undisclosed fee.
