“We had to be very good defensively and we were. Port Vale started the game a lot better than us and I was very pleased with the way we stood up to it.<\/p>\n

“We have had a lot of praise for the good football we play, but every successful team also needs the other side of the game. Teams who can’t defend don’t win many games.<\/p>\n

“I was also pleased with the way we held our lead after scoring the goals. We let a 2-0 lead slip at Crewe last week and the way we saw out this game made a statement.<\/p>\n

“We have a very good winning mentality in the team and that should hold us in good stead. We’ve got 15 games remaining and we’ve put ourselves in a strong position.<\/p>\n

“We were the team in the ascendancy in the first half and our biggest problem was we failed to take our chances.<\/p>\n

“You have to strike while the iron is hot in football and when you miss chances you only have yourselves to blame.<\/p>\n

“I don’t know if it was a penalty, but once Swansea got their noses in front they showed why they are at the top of the table.<\/p>\n

“They were like a peacock showing its feathers and the confidence was flowing right through them. As we all know, goals change games.<\/p>\n

“What I am proud of is the way my players keep coming back in adversity. They have taken a lot of knocks, but they can take immense pride with the spirit they keep showing.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
