{"id":82140,"date":"2023-06-02T07:18:06","date_gmt":"2023-06-02T06:18:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jackarmy.net\/wp67\/?p=82140"},"modified":"2023-06-02T07:18:06","modified_gmt":"2023-06-02T06:18:06","slug":"the-compensation-clause-holding-up-martins-southampton-appointment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jackarmy.net\/wp67\/2023\/06\/02\/the-compensation-clause-holding-up-martins-southampton-appointment\/","title":{"rendered":"The compensation clause holding up Martin&#8217;s Southampton appointment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It has been a strange two weeks at Swansea City with press reports and speculation over an imminent appointment of Russell Martin and his team wide of the mark as the compensation issue drags on.<\/p>\n<p>After a period where it seemed that the compensation was anywhere between \u00a3500k and \u00a3800k, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/football\/65779193\">a BBC report yesterday<\/a><\/strong> revealed that the difference between the Championship compensation and the Premier League compensation is almost \u00a3800k alone &#8211; the report stating it&#8217;s the difference between \u00a31.25m and &#8216;almost&#8217; \u00a32m.<\/p>\n<div class=\"getty aligncenter\"><a id='bDBOHlS3T-RJRmLgoi30Vg' class='gie-single' href='http:\/\/www.gettyimages.com\/detail\/1250859402' target='_blank' style='color:#a7a7a7;text-decoration:none;font-weight:normal !important;border:none;display:inline-block;'>Embed from Getty Images<\/a><script>window.gie=window.gie||function(c){(gie.q=gie.q||[]).push(c)};gie(function(){gie.widgets.load({id:'bDBOHlS3T-RJRmLgoi30Vg',sig:'RI_jL9dEjVRmAt5V5IEr8QwQfG-qHwxEIs5ekt6U8HM=',w:'594px',h:'396px',items:'1250859402',caption: false ,tld:'com',is360: false })});<\/script><script src='\/\/embed-cdn.gettyimages.com\/widgets.js' charset='utf-8' async><\/script><\/div>\n<p>Whichever side of the fence you sit on this one you can see the argument on the other side.\u00a0 By the time the approach was made Southampton were confirmed to be a Championship club even if they had not finished their Premier League campaign.\u00a0 \u00a0 However from the other side the point is they were a Premier League club even though they were destined for the Championship.<\/p>\n<p>Logic (is there logic in football?) dictates that given they are now a Championship Club and Russell Martin is &#8211; at this moment &#8211; Swansea City manager therefore the clause surely is one that dictates he is joining a Championship club.\u00a0 But, as referenced earlier, I can see and understand the opposite argument.<\/p>\n<p>These figures also highlight the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/jackarmy.net\/wp67\/2023\/06\/01\/silly-season-in-full-swing-swansea-city-not-helping-themselves\/\">point that was made yesterday<\/a><\/strong> that the lack of communication leads to misinformation and speculation something that we know for certain Andy Coleman and Paul Watson are keen to stamp out during their time in the club.<\/p>\n<p>Conspiracy Theorists at the moment will tell you that maybe the club are actually doing their work to stop the leaks at the moment.\u00a0 \u00a0It wouldn&#8217;t be the first time that information was officially leaked from the club to actually test where the leaks are.\u00a0 \u00a0I admit it could give some level of credence to why there is so much differing information out there but I&#8217;m not sure I subscribe completely to this theory although, again, I do see why it is being suggested.<\/p>\n<p>Back to Martin though, we know he was in Swansea yesterday taking some time during half term to play FootGolf with his family.\u00a0 \u00a0Of course the reports have been that personal terms have been agreed with Southampton so the compensation hold up is consistent in at least that side of the story if nothing else.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Nice to welcome Russell Martin to the FootGolf this lunchtime, here with his family \ud83e\udda2\u26f3\ufe0f\u26bd\ufe0f <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/lobIlEeC1c\">pic.twitter.com\/lobIlEeC1c<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash;
