The Third Division champions beat Irish League side Cobh Ramblers 3-1 with goals from skipper Nick Cusack, Kristian O’Leary and returning striker Steve Watkin. Hollins was delighted with the performance and especially pleased with the performance of his skipper up front. “For his age he has amazing energy,” he said. “He scored one good goal and set up the other two and led the line well. “Overall it was a good start for the skipper and the club.” Swansea went into the game without the injured Damian Lacey (foot), Lee Jenkins (groin) and Steve Jones (stomach muscle) but had able deputies to call on with youngsters Michael Keegan, Leigh De-Vulgt and Chris Todd coming in. “I was very pleased with the performance,” said Hollins. “I tried a few young players and they all did a good job for us. I wanted to let players get 90 minutes under their belts and we have no injuries.” Swansea target James Thomas will be talking over his Blackburn future later this week with manager Graeme Souness. The former Liverpool star is expected back at Ewood Park on Thursday and Thomas expects to hold talks about which direction his career is taking. “I wanted the players to move the ball around quickly and tire themselves out. “They did exactly what I asked them to do and really put themselves about. “There was a bit of a mix-up for their goal which was a bit disappointing but we can solve that problem. “Steve Watkin was back to his old self and had a couple of headers. Overall it was a good start for Swansea City.”
