Swans Hope to Shock Again

Following two goal-less draws in the league so far, West Bromich Albion are the visitors tonight for the first leg of this Worthington League Cup First Round match. They bring with them assistant manager Frank Burrows – who will rule the team from the bench while manager Gary Megson sits out a touchline ban – and former Swans target Bob Taylor, who could form part of three-pronged strike force for the visitors as they too seek their first win of the season. The Swans have only the injured Jon Coates as a definite absentee, Stuart Roberts could find himself the main beneficiary as he looks likely to make his first appearance of the season. The back five should remain unaltered, provided Steve Jones can shake off a slight knock picked up at Griffin Park on Saturday. Striker Tommy Mutton, impressive in pre-season, could also enter into the equation as the Swans try to break their goal-scoring duck. Mutton though, is likely to start on the bench with Steve Watkin and Walter Boyd continuing up front. In the first round last year, Second Division Millwall were dispensed with in the First Round and Derby County could only manage a draw at the Vetch in Round Two. Hopefully a decent crowd will be there tonight to help continue Swansea’s good reputation against higher placed teams in the knockout competitions. Could be a cracker. K.O. 7.45pm.
