In recent history the gamble was made to late when Frank Burrows was sacked and replaced with Jan Molby, we so nearly avoided the drop when it looked a formality at Christmas.
However in many cases it is often the teams who sack managers now who never manage to survive the drop. Who could be brought in that would be suitable for the job in hand, would the type of manager who could save us progress the side into a promotion contesting team, many of the best managers take 2-3 seasons to set up their stall and produce such quality.
Would these managers put up with the bull that McClure & Co. feed to the Swansea laity that Hollins readily accepts and follows. He is no great manager, but don’t get disillusioned by who the enemy is. If the board put up any money to buy players then every manager does so. Because of Cork we have a lot of dud players on long term contracts.
This means we have a large squad in which we have no real quality, but no available wages to bring in players on a Bosman (except Romo!, Savarese IS on long-term Loan). Hollins has done well in such a straight jacket, the 2 main areas he falls down on are tactics and not having the bollox to stand up to McClure and Co. to get the money we so desperately need. McClure & Co can be held responsible for allowing such long-term contracts, but they were new to the game.
We are our own worst enemy sometimes, we expect so much from the club we love as we’ve tasted the best, we turn to negativity if all isn’t going our way, I’ve done it many a time and booed them of the pitch. But it does make for the electric atmosphere we get down the Vetch when things do go right. It’s now we have to get behind the team, or we will go down, no matter how bad they are sometimes!
We must stand behind Hollins in the vein hope that he can produce some magical outcome to this torrid season, and also that this rumour of a wealthy new owner will come true in the near future so the improvements to the squad can be made before it’s too late.
