"his first game was away in Boavista. Barry were 2-0 down with 10 minutes to go. Rather than shut up shop, Nicko was waving the players forward, perfectly aware that Boavista had gone into their shell, sensing the opportunity to put them under pressure. Here was a man making HIS OWN decisions, not anyone’s puppet, who clearly had a superior grasp of the game than his recent predecessors (and at a decent level too – europe). His record of spotting young talent is good, and our current side must be the youngest ever at BTFC. Nicko’s tenure as manager has coincided with a new Glasnost at Jenner Park. It feels like ‘our club’ again. Great strides have gone on behind the scenes and our team has progressed further in europe than anyone else. I for one am sad to see Nicko leave – I like the bloke. He was good for Barry and Barry was good for him. |
