Macclesfield 4 Swansea 1

The first half was equally as ineffective as Swansea only managed one shot on goal in a very poor showing from both sides.

Cheered on by 400 travelling Swans in a 2,200 crowd the FA Cup second round proved one hurdle too many with six suspensions and injuries limiting Manager Colin Addison to a very bare looking and ineffective squad. Before the rout started in the second half subs David Romo and Gareth Phillips managed to probe the Macclesfield defence and Bound really should have put The Swans ahead with an easy chance from a Romo corner.

After that Mamady Sidibe missed a harder chance from outside the area and Stephen Evans hit the side netting. But that was all The Swans could muster as they were ripped apart with speedy runs from Macclesfield’s midfield.

The marking at times was awful and Bound continually shouted instructions to his defence who were at sixes and sevens throughout the ninety minutes. Steve Brody, Addisons one questionable signing to date was substituted at half time and quite rightly so as the majority of The Swans side showed no effort, no commitment and no sign of passion which made the 4-0 hammering of QPR pointless and a total waste of time.

Even a Nick Cusack goal in the dying minutes did little to raise the cheer. And as the players trooped from the pitch ridiculed by Macclesfield’s pitiful support one Mike Lewis wobbled to his feet in the Directors Box, seemingly stumbling from the effects of the cold ? And seeing his red face and staggering gait just sums up the mess we are in.

t’s time for plan B – The Swans must not be left to die ………. With five minutes to go the majority of the travelling fans had left after starting the game with so much optimism, and quite simply Colin Addison and Paul Nicholas have so much work to do in the next few weeks it will also show their commitment to the cause.

And the cause ?

Easily the most important four weeks of the season are ahead of us with home games against Carlisle and Bristol Rovers that must be 3 points a piece. Today The Swans were awful, as bad as at Mansfield and Luton and nowhere near the side we saw at Torquay and Kidderminster.

Addison and Nicholas – It’s over to you.
