With the deal with the Mel Griffin consortium just about signed sealed and delivered Tony Petty decided it was time for one final trip to the Vetch, 111 days since assuming control on October 3 last year.
Petty who must rank as one of the most unpopular football chairmen ever decided that some people had stuck by him throughout the course of his reign and he wanted to thank them personally. However, Mr Petty may also like to know that some people who he thought were sticking by him, may not have been after all. Petty was the boss and many backed him for fear of losing their jobs or because they had no choice.
It is also believed that Mr Petty’s parting gesture is to take the Jaguar back off my old mate Mike Lewis and bounce him out of the football club for one last time. Well it took those 111 days, but Petty finished with the only thing he has done right during that time.
Sadly, Mr Petty was to be disappointed on this front as Mike was not at the Vetch this morning and, as you would expect, neither was the said Jaguar. I suggest that if Mr Petty wants to take the car back then he contact the North Bank Alliance.
Our insider at the club said “I couldn’t believe it when he walked in. There were rumours over the weekend that he was going to do this but I couldn’t believe it when it happened. Tony came up to me and said that he couldn’t just disappear without saying goodbye but that was what we all wanted him to do. This is the end of an era that none of us want to remember at all”
