In a statement issued by the club, they say " Swansea City Football Club can confirm that there has been no faxes received from Chris Connolly this week or last offering to buy the Club. Prior to late on Wednesday March 13th, no phone calls had been made to the Vetch Field, from either him or his associates." |
Connolly has been talking to the Welsh media in recent days stating that he wanted to take over and talks of 3-year plans and that he will subsidise the losses for three years make a cynical person like me wonder if we haven’t heard it all before from other sources. |
However, in the same statement he talks about not throwing his money away, which with debts of รยฃ1.7 million at this moment surely he would be and then talks about the Morfa stadium. This stadium better be good as everyone is queuing up to be a part of it. |
The club statement continues: " His comments in the media regarding him making contact directly with the Club are completely untrue. The only correspondence we have received from him directly, was at the time of the administration petition last November, which was a time where he actually pledged his support to Tony Petty, to the tune of $500,000, before withdrawing his pledge several days later. " Brian Katzen met with him in America on our behalf several months ago. They have not spoken since then, although Chris Connolly has left several voice messages for Brian Katzen. Each time he has attempted to return the call, Mr Connolly has been unobtainable. " The Management Committee have received no firm offer from Chris Connolly, but it understands that he has indicated a desire to purchase the Club from previous owners, on a number of occasions. None of these have ever, to the Committee’s knowledge, resulted in any firm offer being made." |
Of course Connolly’s claims of being what the club need are backed up by Mike Lewis (yes, he’s still there) and he endorses the bid saying he had ‘checked Connolly out last summer’ Strange that, I thought he did the same for Tony Petty? I’m not saying Mike has an axe to grind with the current owners, he clearly does. (!) Anything that Mike Lewis’ endorses I would treat with extra caution, a point that the club seem to agree on: |
" The Management Commitee has noted that Mr Mike Lewis believes that it might be in the Club’s interest to open negotiations with Mr Connolly. We do not understand why Mr Lewis considers that he has any role to play in the Club’s affairs, having formally resigned his position at the Club last year. " The Committee would also like to speak to Mr Lewis, regarding several matters which have come to our attention, arising from his involvement with Tony Petty’spurchase of Swansea City Football Club in September 2001.The information we have received, does not tally with whathas previously been said, and we would appreciate the opportunity to clear up any discrepancies." |
The club also assure us that they are looking for new investment, but as they have stated from the outset, any investment must be for the good of Swansea City Football Club and not the potential investor. |
" If Mr Connolly, or anyone else for that matter, is willing to invest in Swansea City Football Club, we would urge them to come forward, and contact theManagement Committeeat the Vetch Field directly." |
Chris Connolly? Not for me thanks. |
