One Chapter Closing

Last week was a very quiet one. By Swansea City standards, it was quite boring!, but I’d prefer to be out of the news than in it these days.

Last Tuesday’s Premier Cup game once again fell victim to the weather, although many feel it was controversial of referee Kevin Morris to call the game off.

Vetch Field ground staff had covered the problem areas on the pitch since mid-morning, but heavy rain from 5.00pm onwards, with further downpours forecast caused the official some concern, and despite most onlookers thinking the surface was wet, but playable, he made his decision just after 6.00pm.

Barry Town boss Kenny Brown said " It’s a disgrace, I’m absolutely gobsmacked. There were no puddles on the pitch, and the referee didn’t even consult anyone, he just made his mind up in a minute. " It certainly wasn’t playable last time, but it was tonight. He said that he couldn’t guarantee that the game would be finished. If that’s the case, I don’t think he’ll start another game this season.”

The match has been rearranged for this Tuesday, KO 6.55pm.

So last Saturday we travelled up to Darlington, for what can only be described as a nothing game, although the point from the 0-0 draw ensured our safety in Division 3 for another season.

A battling performance, without being anything out of the ordinary, was good enough at this stage of the season. It seems the only thing left to play for is a Premier Cup final place against Cardiff, and some well needed cash.

Luton are the visitors to the Vetch next week, with the promise of a large away following. Luton are looking odds on for promotion, but lets at least hope we can dent their prospects.

That really was about it for last week. This week is likely to be much more eventful, and hopefully today will see the club riddled of all it’s debt. The Swansea City Management Committee meet with the majority of their creditors today in the hope that 75 % of them agree to the voluntary agreement put forward three weeks ago. We await the news.

By 5pm tonight, one chapter will be closed and another one opened in the story of Swansea City AFC.
