The official site almost seems to be backing Mr Gould as manager interviewing John Williams, who played for Gould under Coventry and reminding us that Gould was in charge of the Wimbledon side that won the FA Cup in 1988. Cardiff City won the FA Cup in 1927 but I wouldn’t want many of that team here!
But of course it’s not a real backing for a man who steered Wales so comfortably from almost qualifying for the World Cup in 1994 to the depths of despair just a few years later playing some of the dullest football ever seen from the National team. And of course he was part of Mad Man Sam’s dream at Cardiff before he was replaced by the man with the golden track record, Alan Cork. Hmmm, hardly an impressive CV now is it?
In fact wherever you look Mr Gould has not got an impressive CV – this is how his league club career looks to date: –
Club | Dates | P | W | D | L |
Bristol R | 1981-1983 | 78 | 36 | 14 | 28 |
Coventry | 1983-1984 | 69 | 20 | 17 | 32 |
Bristol R | 1985-1987 | 104 | 31 | 25 | 48 |
Wimbledon | 1987-1990 | 142 | 57 | 43 | 42 |
West Brom | 1991-1992 | 66 | 22 | 23 | 21 |
Coventry | 1992-1993 | 58 | 18 | 19 | 21 |
Cardiff City | 2000-2001 | 56 | 24 | 19 | 13 |
Totals | 573 | 208 | 160 | 205 | |
Hardly makes overly impressive reading does it? Average that out and it is 64 points over a 46 game season – not enough to reach the play offs and probably less than that in reality given the budgets that will be in place at the Vetch next season. |

He may have a name that people have heard of but a name does not make success and Bobby Gould’s CV can, in my opinion, be filed under the heading of "Thanks but no thanks" in the Vetch offices. |
