Home > Story Index >World Cup Diary – Day Two

Date: 1stJune 2002
Saturday:Rep. Ireland 1 Vs 1Cameroon. Denmark 2 Vs Uraguay 1. Germany 8 Vs 0 Saudi Arabia.
Locations: Still in Sweden! My friends’ living room for first 2games then pub called Bรƒยฅten for the Germany game.
Morning Status:This time I wasstill extremelydrunk after nightclub last night. Awake at 8.30am, really fugged up until 1pm!!! Some good vodka and whisky drinking last night.
Who Watched With: 1 Bosnian,1 Spaniard, 4 Swedes and a german shepherd.
Beers Drunk:Are you kidding?? been feeling as rough as a roofers nailbag all day.
FavouriteSaying of the Day: "Do you have digital TV?" in about 12 local pubs!!!
Favourite Moment: Hearing the news, "yes we have digital tv", finally found somewhere showing the german game, missed first half though. Also when my mate got stung for a couple of quid by some "HEN NIGHT" girls at 3.30 in the afternoon, cracking rack on the bride to be though!!!
Atmosphere: Not busy at all, nobody in the pubs, strange for a saturday afternoon.
Food: A bit boring today, felt really rough so burger and chips in a fast food joint downtown.
Money Spent: Not so much, maybe a ร‚ยฃ7 all day, felt too rough to go out and besidesSunday morning is England Vs Sweden go to be up for that!
Prospects ForTeams After Todays Results: Germans can’t really fail, although both Cameroon and the Rep. Ireland looked pretty handy, depends which of the two do the best against the Germans. Denmark will qualify behind France I think, although interesting game between Denmark and Senegal!!!
Entertainment Value of Game: Pretty Good Games, 8/10, Uraguay V Denmark a bit crap though, but good goal made up for it.
Man of the Day: The Saudi keeper, felt sorry for him. Probably Miroslav Klose for his hat-trick although Jon Dahl Tomasson did well single handedly defeating a poor Uraguay / Wimbledon.
Local Wildlife: Not so many girls in the pubs, but saturday afternoon shopping and the sun brought them out in droves, sitting outside cafรƒยฉs looking rather nice, it’s true about Swedish Girls, all very pretty with lovely blonde hair.
Prospects For Tonight: Actually staying in because I am so tired, maybe some TV or a Sauna or something, probably be surfing net instead though!
Ability To Get Up For Tomorrows Games: Actually shouldn’t be too bad, will miss the Argentina Vs Nigeria game, too early for pubs.
Tomorrows Predictions:Argentina 4V 2 Nigeria.England 2 V 1 Sweden.South Africa 1 Vs2 Paraguay andSlovenia 2 Vs2 Spain.
General Comments: Oh well thats my diary again for today, currently quite pleased I didn’t go out, but last weekend her probably so should really have gone out. Suppose most of you lot had been out all day saturday and probably again sunday as well! Good effort if you did.
Adjรƒยถ frรƒยฅn Svensk Swan, fรƒยถr nu!

Date: 1st Jaune 2002 Match: Germany .v. Saudi Araibia Location: Hotel Lindenhobf, Ilmanau, Germany. Morning Status: Awake early to find that they werent showing the Irish game. PPV. Who Watched With: 25-30 Mullet clad Germans. Plus me and the Mrs. Weather: Very hot Beers Drunk: 4 bottles Warsteiner before, 5 pints Paulaner Weissbeer during, the rest was a bit blurry Favourite Chant of the Day: "We all agree, that Kahn is far uglier than Dowie" Cue blank stares. Favourite Moment: None, the Germans were in total smug mode. Slightly different from September 2nd 2001. Atmosphere: Typically East German, reserved and boring. No. of references to the war: 2 "You destroyed them like you did Coventry. Well done". "Just like the war this, you stomp over small countries, but against the "big-boys" like England, France, and, er, Wales, you will lose". Food: Bratwursts. No cockles or laverbread available. Money Spent: At the same time as the game, it was the town festival, so the day dragged on into night, and the blur jsut intensified. Damn funny seeing so many sunburnt mulletet Germans wearing cut-off denim jackets Prospects For Germany After Result: Prospects? Theyve won it already. Entertainment Value of Game: Slightly one sided, 5/10. Man of the Match: . Miroslav Klose with a hat-trick. Funny though that before the game the Germans reckoned he was "shit". Now a national hero. Local Wildlife: With girlfriend, so I didnt notice any very good looking young fraus. Honest. Prospects For Tonight: Good, lots of free entertainment with German cover bands doing classics like "Angel is a centrefold", "Achy-breaky heart" and "Dont impress me much", all sung by Germans with poor english speaking skills, yep and you guessed it, a mullet. Ability To Get Up For Tomorrows Games: Sorted, no problem.. <<...>> Highlight of the day: One of the TV watching Germans back peddling at a rate of knots about how "shit" Klose is, to how he will win the golden boot. Also hearing a very bad cover of "Lost in France". Our Bonnie wouldnt be happy. Prospects for a kicking: None, the Germans were too drunk to find out where the "loud mouthed english bastard" had gone. General Comments: Bit sun burnt, very drunk, but my mullet is coming along fine.
Information – "Klose" in German roughly translates to "Dumpling". Miroslav Dumpling. Cool.
