Good Riddance Mama

Why does this keep happening and, bar a few exceptions, it usually happens with foreign players and French people in particular seem a bit prone to this kind of behaviour. Mamady Sidibe will not be missed. Many liked him but, if you pushed me, I would say that I was not a fan. We are a third division football club and this kind of player is the type that a 3rd division club cannot afford to carry.
Sure you could argue that he had skill and flair but think about it properly – how often did he show it? I would class him in the same category as David Romo, on their day they were an asset to the club but sadly their day only came when they could bother themselves to actually make it their day.
People were up in arms last season when there was talk of selling Sidibe but I seem to remember commenting around that time that we should cash in. There are some that should be cashed in on and some that shouldn’t and Mama certainly came into the former of those categories.
But now that decision has been taken out of our hands and he leaves the Vetch with the contract that we offered him unsigned. And Swans boss Nick Cusack is clearly not impressed, telling the club’s official site "His agent informed us that he did not want to play for Swansea anymore, and he was not coming back. Under those circumstances I assume that Mama has played his last game for the football club. It’s disappointing in the sense that the club had looked after him, made sure he had the best medical treatment, saw one of the top specialist’s to ensure we could get him fit, but I was not prepared to gamble on him returning fit, and therefore giving him a long contract could mean that he might have had months and months in the treatment room, and the club would have to pick up the financial burden. This point was made clear to him when he was offered the contract. Once we had established he was back to full fitness we would have been prepared to sit down with him and discuss a new dealt, but it has transpired that the player never really had any intention of signing a new deal, and in view of what we are trying to do at the football club, we only want players here who want to play for the Swans, anything else would be detrimental to the harmony within the rest of the squad."
So interesting that Mama accepted the operation that he underwent soon after the FAW Final against Cardiff and was quite happy to accept everything on offer from the club and then decided to do this. Some people just do not deserve a profession that so many would give anything to have been able to do and frankly it would not bother me if this man never played for another club – and remember those that cause trouble tend to be overlooked in the future.
Good riddance to Mama and if news that Nick is looking to bring in an up and coming Premiership star for a season’s loan then let’s be honest – will we really miss him?
