My name is Richard Evans and I am actually only 23 years old. My family hails fromCarmarthen, though in my much travelled life I have lived in Reading, Guildford and Luxembourg. Afterleaving the University of Wales two years ago after studying Business Studies, Ifound work in the marketing department of a large national brewer near Birmingham and commute weekly back to Swansea. If the Swans have a weeknight match however, I tend to return merely for the evening’s entertainment…or not (in the case of numerous matches this season!). I watched my first match at the Vetch Field in 1988, so missed the glory years, but became severley hooked during the era of Jan Molby and the promotion run under John Hollins. Aside from the Swans, I collect football memorabilia from the 90’s+ and my most treasured possession is a signed and framed Chelsea shirt from the 2002 FA Cup FInal by all the players and the manager- although they lost!!
Now I use my midweek base in the Midlands to travel to tough weeknight games and find I am able to attend most of Swansea’s home and away matches. My worst away trip last season was Rushden and Diamonds (I didn’t attend the Hartlepool game thankgod!) when myself and a friend attempted to find the ground with the most horrendous of directions. Arriving in Northampton at 12pm with the intention of having a few beers before the kick off, we found ourself still driving around at 3:30 in the afternoon and eventually found the ground at half time. The stewards made us pay full price for entry for only the second 45 minutes and we left 15 minutes later after the worst football I have seen in my entire life! On the other hand, I particularly enjoyed the 4-0 victory over QPR and the 2-1 win against Kidderminster – when the atmosphere was absolutely electric. |
