My honest answer is no. Irrespective of where his club loyalties lie he is surely just doing his job? He puts his neck on the line and says what he thinks (remember Savarese?) but that is no need surely for this hatred that seems to be directed at him does it?
But you have to laugh when you see the Western Mail asking your friend and mine, Mike Lewis what he thinks. Mike Lewis thankfully left these shores at the start of the year and is working hard (no doubt) to destroy ambition in Exeter so why ask him about Swansea City? Mario Risoli is one of the better writers in South Wales so why sink to the level to speak to Lewis on this matter? I would take a stab because Lewis himself was attacked at the Rushden game last year. I won’t condone that either but with the feelings running at the level they were then can you really be surprised when he flaunted himself in people’s faces in the Harry Griffiths bar after the game? I can’t say I was. Stupid I would have called that.
Aizelwood however was just leaving the ground and although his comments will never endear himself to Swansea fans the fact that it has got to this stage must be of a worry somewhere in the hierarchy at the club? But to read calls and messages of people stating that Aizelwood should be banned from the Vetch and that he probably deserved it to me is a classic case of overkill. I can safely say that I did not lose sleep when I heard of the attack but at the same time I cannot agree that he deserved it.
Perversely, I quite like listening to Mark Aizelwood. Of course, I’ll disagree with the rest of you when he makes statements like “Savarese won’t score 10 goals” and the like but he does make for entertainment. I would much rather listen to someone who does have some knowledge of the game than someone who if asked the same Savarese question answered “He could do, but then again he could not”
Come on let’s put this into perspective and realise just what we are talking about here. A journalist, doing his job, saying what he believes in gets attacked leaving the ground after providing the match commentary. Is that really right? I think not.
But on an amusing finish, we’ll use one of Lewis’ quotes from the Western Mail “When I was chairman of Swansea fans came up to me and gave me grief whenever I was walking around the city.” But we thought you said you couldn’t afford shoes when you were here Mike!!!!!!!
