The Blame Game

Ok we are in the mire at the moment and we are struggling. Its times like these we need to rally round the team and the club. However there has been some worrying noises from some sections of our ‘support’. Condemning the club for having no chairman, accusing the board of having no balls, the continuous bating of some players. I am not saying they don’t deserve but is it really going to help? Some people are even giving Flynn flak when he has only been in the job a few weeks!

The blame culture has to stop fast! We will never get out of this mess if the board are continuously attacked, the players will not respond to abuse. One of the most disgusting things I have ever seen, happened at Oxford. OK the players needed a rocket up their arses because that was a game we should have won. However what I saw at the end of the game was truly shocking.

At the final whistle the players got a barracking, but 3 players including Rog made the effort to come over to the Swans fans in the away corner to clap us. When these 3 bothered to do this one fan behind me decided to scream f off at the players. Now this was bang out of line and I had a few choice words with the sad individual. How would those players who bothered to acknowledge us have felt?

Then I read on the various sites and lists, abuse directed at the board. I remember well that night on the chat room when these men saved the club and paid Petty to scarper. The elation, the happiness the relief. The board they were like the messiahs and I do not exaggerate here. Now they are getting stick. These guys have given up family and social lives. Have sacrificed the amount of time they give to their own businesses to help get Swansea City back on track. If they walked away (and who could blame them) what would happen. We would not be in the conference next year, we would be out of business! We have no Gary Lineker waiting in the wings to steam in with his chequebook.

I even see that Roger is getting stick, being a new member of the goalkeeping union having kept goal for the Ja.net team Rog has my full sympathy. It only takes one mistake from a keeper and he is in the spotlight. Our defence can make a catalogue of errors and get away with it. Some people are saying that Rog has not had his weaknesses highlighted because we have had a solid defence the last few years. Now we have a weak defence he is being exposed. Well you bet your bottom dollar he is. When you have a crap defence and no confidence in them is there any wonder that there is little communication between him and the defence. I am not denying that Rog has had a dip in form but I believe he will be back to his best very soon. Some are calling for Marsh to get a go, but then Marsh made a mistake in the second minute I believe against Briton ferry which they scored from. Makes you think doesn’t it?

Anyway we should look on the bright side, on Saturday Rapid Bucharest had a keeper crisis with all 3 keepers injured. Rapid’s vice chairman Razvan Lucescu had to play in goal. So for you Roger doubters out there just imagine how you would feel if David Morgan came strutting out in the number 1 shirt? Bet you would be calling for Roger then.

We are going through a crisis but at least its on the pitch rather than boardroom battles that we are more used to. I leave you with a quote from Full Metal Jacket

‘ In other words, it’s a huge shit sandwich, and we’re all gonna have to take a bite.’
