No Alsop Return

Following rumours circulating amongst Swansea fans that Julian Alsop was returning to the Vetch on loan we approached Cheltenham Town to find out if there was any truth in the rumours.

Cheltenham at this moment are fighting relegation back to the third division and currently lie 21st in the division. Alsop, a key player in their promotion season last year is currently their top league goalscorer with 5 goals, a statistic sure to make Swansea fans wonder whether the rumours could possibly be true.

So what did the Cheltenham spokesman say when we asked him the question, ‘Is Alsop returning to the Vetch?’ Well, read on

“Are you being serious? Put it this way would you want to see James Thomas playing at Chester City. I can assure you that there has been no contact from Swansea for Julian and I cannot see us letting him go, especially not down a division. He has scored 5 of the 18 league goals that we have managed season to date and we are looking to him to continue that run as we aim to still be a second division side next season. You know there is no way that you would let your leading scorer drop down a division so I think that gives you a pretty good idea that we wouldn’t either.”

The comments from inside Whaddon Road tend to suggest that this is little more than a rumour and, if you want an honest opinion, I couldn’t see it happening at this moment in time either. I do have fond memories of Alsop at Swansea (not always on the playing side) but he has been a revelation since joining Cheltenham and good luck to him in their relegation battle.
