Within minutes of the news breaking about the signing of Nugent (well in true tradition within minutes of the news being braodcast around – naturally before any formal announcement!) fans were already making their feelings known that they did not believe Kevin Nugent was the way forward to get this club away from the foot of the table.
First response from the fans was a definite no to the new signing with further descriptions ranging from ‘donkey’ to ‘whippet wearing clogs’. Leyton Orient fans seemed equally unimpressed with Nugent and the majority seemed glad to ged rid and amazed that someone would actually prepared to take him off their hands.
The reaction of the fans is no doubt the opposite to what Brian Flynn would have expected and with growing resentment about performances in the league under Flynn just adds to the ever growing feeling that we may just have the wrong man in charge of the ship at this vital period in time.
Fans are suggesting alternatives to Flynn ranging from bringing back Colin Addison and Peter Nicholas to a ‘dream paring’ of Molby and Cornforth. It’s also safe to say that Nugent is a striker who does not exactly have a prolific record with a strike rate of a goal every 4.7 games – meaning we can expect one goal from him providing he plays five times this month!!!!
I’m afraid that on this one I stand in the unimpressed category and can only continue to wonder if there really is any hope left that we can cling to. In my mind now Flynn has had the chance – he has built a squad around who he thinks can do the job and the harsh reality is that we are on our worst run of form all season.
The future indeed continues to look bleak.
