With his side six points adrift of safety at the bottom of the table, Flynn has been quick to recognise that players are needed now and whilst everyone knows the name of Roberto Martinez, we can reveal that Flynn is close to securing deals with three more players in his battle for league safety.
Talks with Martinez have been going on for over a week, and the player was at the club today to talk over the finer points of the deal with a view to signing on a free transfer. This particular deal we expect to be formalised by the end of tomorrow at the very latest and Martinez will most likely make his debut at home to Lincoln on Saturday.
Real Radio alluded last night to the fact that Flynn is looking for goalkeeping cover with Roger carrying a niggling injury and this position is high on Flynn’s list as it appears that he feels that youngster Simon Coles is not ready to be pitched into the battle that we are currently in. Certain names banded about before for the goalkeeping position will be high on people’s lists of possible choices and if you think carefully then I am sure the name will come to mind of the most likely target.
We also believe that Flynn has his eye on a further defender and midfielder to strengthen the playing squad and it is believed that one of these players could have Swansea connections. There does seem to be a number of midfielders available at the moment for Flynn to choose from and I am sure that it will not escape his attention that only last week, Bury announced that they would release Lenny Johnrose with Andy Preece (co-incidentally a friend of Brian Flynn) stating “If somebody is out there who can come and pay his wages then come an help. It’s difficult but I do understand the situation and I have to cut costs” Johnrose is a travelled midfielder who has had two spells at Gigg Lane as well as time at Burnley, Hartlepool, Preston and Blackburn.
If the targeted midfielder does turn out to be Johnrose then I have some confidence that he will do the required job for us – the official Bury site describes him as a ‘legend amongst Bury supporters’ and if he helps to keep us up then he will be a legend here too!!!
Whatever happens the next 48 hours will be ones to keep your eyes peeled for the news and maybe, just maybe we have a little hope.
