Former Manager Dies

News filters in today that former Swansea manager Trevor Morris dies in his Nottingham home at the age of 82.

Morris was a player who saw his career end very prematurely in 1941 when he suffered a broken leg in a game between Cardiff City and Bristol City during the December of that year.

It was that side that gave him his return to football when they offered him the post as assistant-secretary in 1946, being promoted to secretary-manager when Cyril Spiers resigned the post. However, in 1958 he moved to Swansea Town as general manager – a move that was to last for seven years.

Morris led the Swans to within 90 minutes of Wembley and the FA Cup Final in 1964 when the side lost out to Preston at Villa Park having beaten Liverpool at Anfield along the way as well as Barrow, Sheffield United and Stoke City.

Swansea were relegated to the Third Division the season after this FA Cup run and Morris resigned before taking over the reigns at Ninian Park. After he left Somerton Park he took the role as secretary of the Welsh FA.

I am sure that all at JackArmy.net will join the club in sending their condolences to his wife Maria and daughter Jane and we ask that all fans respectively observe the one minutes silence that the club have asked for before tomorrow night’s home game with Darlington.

May he rest in peace – the loss of a true Swansea legend
