The veteran keeper had to come off during last week’s 4-0 reverse at Hartlepool and the scans have confirmed that he has ligament damage between the discs in his back. This has put an immediate estimate for a recovery period of four to six weeks taking us to mid April. Assuming he is fit then we will have just a few games left in this awful season.
Roger was scheduled to miss the weekend visit of Wrexham because of suspension anyway but with no other experienced keeper in the ranks we are in desperate need of a replacement. Brian Flynn has promised this week that he was going to bring someone in ahead of the Wrexham game but as the clock ticks we still see no new face on the Vetch playing staff.
With Boston following Wrexham just three days later (Tuesday) at the Vetch the fans will have immediate concerns about throwing a youngster in 17-year old Ryan Harrison into the first team fold.
With relegation still a very big possibility we need to have someone at the back who has the experience of football league action and we have seen too often this season that experience wins over youth every time.
We can only assume that Flynn is working and making contact with as many people as possible as Roger’s boots are without a doubt the hardest to fill at the club.
