22 year old Manchester born winger Brad Maylett, will have the distinction of equalling a club record if he makes his debut against Carlisle on Saturday. He will be the 35th player used by the Swans this season and the 22nd to make his debut. It seems that Brian Flynn has resigned himself to the fact that Kieran Durkan is far from regaining fitness and has moved quickly to inject some width into a Swans team that has failed to find the net in over 6 hours of football. The lack of a pacey winger has certainly contributed to our lack of goals this season and maybe Flynn will now change his favoured 4-3-3 formation to a 4-4-2, to accomodate Maylett. From the reports i’ve read, he certainly has bags of pace and loves to get into the box whenever possible. In fact, The Observer’s season preview described Maylett as Burnley’s "most promising youngster" and several Burnley supporter’s groups awarded him their "Young player of the season award" last year. With 43 appearances for the First Division outfit, Maylett is no stranger to first team football, so he should have no problems adapting to life in the Third Division. If Maylett is capable of delivering quality balls into the box, perhaps his arrival will result in the glut of goals needed to kick-start our "Great escape" With the biggest game of the season against Carlisle less than 24 hours away, a return to goalscoring form from James Thomas and Kevin Nugent is badly needed. Let’s hope that the arrival of the young Burnley winger provides the catalyst that our strikers so badly need.
