It’s always nice to kick off a new season at home when you consider that fans have gone three months without football and the sun nearly always seems to shine on the opening day. A good crowd is guaranteed and hopefully we will start with a win this time around. You just picture the opening day to see someone like James Thomas turning to a shirt sleeved North Bank to celebrate the third in a six goal rout. Well, we all have to have dreams. |
Of course, Bury will be no pushovers but then again Rushden shouldn’t have been last season and we should have beaten them and we saw towards the end of last season what difference a big crowd can make. |
The first away league trip of the season is the second shortest one in Cheltenham on 16 August. Co-incidentally the last away league fixture is the second longest one in Darlington. |
There were some fixtures that people would look out for and we entertain newcomers Yeovil on 28th December, Doncaster on 20th Deember, Huddersfield on 20th September and Northampton on 24th April. Oh, for a last minute free kick in that game? |
Holiday matches throw out a trip to Torquay on Boxing Day but the Easter Weekend is not kind to us with a trip to Lincoln on Easter Saturday before a potentially explosive match against Hull on Easter Monday. With New Year’s Day falling on a Thursday this year there are no matches scheduled for that day. |
With the first four home fixtures being Bury, Boston, Mansfield and Macclesfield there should be no reason why we should not win all of them and that is the kind of platform that we need this season if we are to avoid the horrors of last time around. |
I can safely say that home on the opening day was what I wanted and home on the last day is the added bonus. Just 51 days to go now then…………. |
