Decision Time For Swansea Targets |
The time has come for Swansea targets Chris Llewellyn and Lee Trundle to make up their mind on where they will be playing their football next season. Linked for several weeks now, both players have been approached and talked to Swans manager Brian Flynn and we expect news from the Vetch over the course over the next few days as to the future of these players. Chris Llewellyn was released by Norwich almost three weeks ago and a decision on his future was expected soon after that. However, nothing has been forthcoming and whilst QPR seem the favourites to land him you just never know whether the pull of his home town city may be too much for him to resist. Llewellyn is also a known target of both Bristol Rovers and Leyton Orient. Chris is known to have impressed Rangers boss Ian Holloway with him declaring "I wanted to see Chris face to face and assess whether he was right for us. Chris has blistering pace, and knows how to hurt defences and can play in a range of forward positions. That’s what we want." Lee Trundle has attracted interest from Coventry City as well as ourselves and Wrexham are also keen to hold onto their man although a problem there may be the extra money that they will have to pay on his transfer fee to his former club Rhyl. This was part of the deal that was arranged by Brian Flynn when he brought him to the Racecourse initially. Coventry can also offer Andy Morrell who they have already taken off the Dragons this summer as a familiar face for Trundle at Highfield Road whilst Swansea possess the manager that gave him his initial break in Flynn. Wrexham manager Denis Smith has already publicly stated that he will give Trundle until the weekend to make his decision and already has a replacement lined up suggesting that he has given up hope of renewing the hit-mans contract. I personally believe that we have more chance of pulling of this signing than that of Llewellyn but only time will tell on whether gut feelings turn into reality. Whatever happens, we have to face facts that Llewellyn has already been released and Trundle is out of contract next Tuesday (1st July) – decisions must now be taken by both players and with rumours flying that the club are ready to announce a further signing tomorrow, speculation is bound to be rife. With the squad also due to report back in the next week or so for pre-season training, it is inevitable that Brian Flynn will want his players to have the maximum time possible to bond as a squad. |
