JackArmy.net v SleepingGiant.com – Match Preview |
It’s hard to believe a year has passed since a few like-minded football fans from the Swansea and Cardiff rival’s sites came up with the idea of an inter-site football match. What started as a bit of banter between the two sets of fans last June, soon turned into a “media event” with coverage in both local and national newspapers and even appearances on local television. This year the buzz has started again and local newspapers have once again turned to the “alternative” South Wales derby to fill their column inches.
Besides the obvious local pride at stake, there is also the small matter of the magnificent Harry Griffiths Trophy up for grabs at Sunday’s game. The trophy currently sits proudly in the bar which shares the great mans name at the Vetch Field, after last years impressive 4-1 win over our eastern rivals. But I’m sure that the boys from Cardiff will have every intention of taking it back up the M4 on Sunday evening. The only thing which stands in their way is the jackarmy.net XI, a team which has grown from a handful of fans having a kick about in Trallwn a year ago, to one of the most successful supporters’ teams in the U.K. With a squad of nearly thirty players, the team certainly has strength in depth and regular training sessions have given them the fitness to match. Since last years 8-1 aggregate win over Cardiff, the team has gone from strength to strength. Chalking up wins over Wrexham, Oxford, Liverpool and also claiming several Swansea Senior League scalps. Under the keen eyes of ex-Swans youth coach Stephen “Reeco” Rees and Football in the Community coach Lee Morgan, the team have been transformed into a well drilled outfit, full of skill, speed and flair. Sunday’s game against our old enemies is the biggest event in the jackarmy.net calendar and will be the perfect curtain raiser for the busy season to come, with several fixtures against other supporters’ teams already arranged. So, if you fancy a great day out and a cracking game of football, come and spend a few hours at South Gower F.C. on Sunday afternoon and see what the jackarmy.net supporters’ team is all about. As the jackarmy.net team helps to build bridges between groups of supporters, we also continue to recognise and help people who are less fortunate than ourselves. And with that in mind, all proceeds collected at Sunday’s game will be given to Ward 6 at Cefn Coed Hospital. So please come along to support OUR boys and give generously. The game also makes the Evening Post
