Reserves Win Again |
By all accounts (well Cardiff’s!) the home side were the better side throughout but Swansea converted their chances and took the win despite the presence of the likes of Gary Croft, Spencer Prior and Gavin Gordon being in the Bluebirds’ side. Swans took a 2-0 lead into the interval – firstly when Corbs converted a James Thomas cross whilst Pritchard scored the second when he converted a Matthew Roberts cross at the back post. Gavin Gordon pulled one back for Cardiff in the second half but it was not enough to prevent the reserves recording their second consecutive victory. Make no bones about it whether the home side were better on the day or not, winning away at a first division club even if it is their reserves is no mean feat and it shows that there are players pushing for a place in the first team with the likes of Howard, Duffy, Corbisiero and Thomas in the side. Next up for Alan Curtis’ side is a trip to Yeovil next Wednesday which follows nicely from the first team’s visit this weekend. The Swans will again be benefitied with their third 1500+ travelling support of the season with over 1400 tickets shifted from the club shop already ahead of the game. With Wales facing a crucial Euro 2004 qualifier in Milan the same evening it promises to be quite a day for the travelling supporters – let’s hope for two wins to keep the momentum going of our early season form. Meanwhile, the Evening Post has reported that despite Andrew Mumford now being a Newport player, Swansea are still believed to be footing half his wages (presumably the beer half?) – there are some players that you can never shake off completely can you. Still, at least we can next summer. Good luck to Mumford but I hope that he thinks on where it all went wrong for him here and learns from those mistakes. But with Peter Nicholas setting the example will he really? |
