SPORT and shopping are now just a step away from each other after the completion of a new footbridge at the site of the new Morfa stadium.
The new bridge links the รยฃ24 million planned new Morfa stadium with land which will accommodate a retail and leisure complex.
It replaced an existing timber bascule bridge over the Tawe.
B&Q, Morrisons supermarket, restaurants and a health club are planned for the retail and leisure complex which will replace the existing Morfa Stadium which has been demolished.
People will be able to step from there across the footbridge to the 20,000 all -seater stadium on the opposite bank of the river.
Swansea0based company Interserve is building the new stadium which will be the home of the city’s football and rugby clubs, the Ospreys regional rugby team and host other major sporting and music events.
The bridge was designed by Swansea Council in conjunction with Nusteel Structures Ltd.
It was built by Swansea Enterprise Park based C A Blackwell (Contracts) Ltd.
Swansea Council leader Lawrence Bailey said “This is another significant milestone in the Morfa Stadium project.”
