Torquay Programme

It seems like an age since league action with the calling off last week of the game at Mansfield and of course our continued run in the FA Cup. But it is back to the ‘real stuff’ today with the visit of Torquay United to the Vetch and a game that we really must win?

Torquay sit five points above us on the league and we cannot afford for that gap to grow. A win today could see us really back in the play off hunt – a defeat and, well I’d rather not think about that.

Who could really forget the last game at the Vetch and that incredible last ten minutes against Preston. We were the second best team on the day but at the end of it only goals win football matches and we scored two, they scored one, the rest is history as they were. Rightly so we got a lot of plaudits for the win and none so more than Lee Trundle but I have to pay mention to Andy Robinson and that belter of a free kick. If that had been Beckham or (god help!) Rooney we would still be reading about it now but it generated very little column inches around the press. It’s a shame but we appreciate it Robbo – now it’s time to show Tranmere what they are missing out on eh?

On the subject of the draw I am sure most Swans fans were disappointed with the trip to Tranmere but on the positive we have an excellent chance of being in the last 8 of the FA Cup. Now who could have seen that coming as James Thomas chipped home the fourth goal at the beginning of May last year?

Of course with the continued involvement in the Cup we have the continued problem on ticket allocation. Is there really a right way for doing this? Whatever way we use there is always likely to be the problem of someone somewhere missing out when they feel they deserve a ticket. It’s happened to me before and I suspect to most people reading this. It’s a no win situation but to those that do make it to Prenton Park – lets make the club proud of us – the sixth round beckons?

A big hello as well today to all the fans who are using the West Terrace now it has again been split into two. (Torquay fans look to your left and wave!) I have a feeling we will need this terrace as we look to the last season at the Vetch and also of course if we progress and get a home draw. The club is certainly looking to maximise income from gate receipts at the moment which is good. And of course at least we know with these owners that it will go back into the club rather than previous occupants (anyone see Mr Lewis got bail?)

The only downside of games being off through weather and cup runs is of course the fact that league games are starting to build up. I really hope that this doesn’t come back to haunt us at the end of the season. It could of course work in our favour but generally it makes life harder. Let’s see eh?

And finally today a warm welcome back to the Vetch for today’s referee – Scott Mathieson. Many will remember James Thomas hat trick against Hull but lets not forget the nice Mr Mathieson who awarded the penalties. I trust that he will get a warm welcome as most of the officials do down here!!!!

That really is it from me this week – for those going to Tranmere enjoy – I know I will – and lets get them three points this afternoon and get behind the Swans.
