Swansea 1 Doncaster 1 |
Nationwide Report Nationwide Division Three leaders Doncaster Rovers moved six points clear at the top of the table with a 1-1 draw away to Swansea City. The early minutes at the Vetch Field saw few clear chances, before Mark Albrighton headed Michael McIndoe’s cross against the woodwork after 20 minutes, with Brian Murphy beaten. Dave Mulligan shot wide for Rovers from 20 yards five minutes later, before Leo Fortune-West missed the target from a McIndoe cross just before the half hour. Murphy then tipped away a Chris Brown drive before the Swans hit the front six minutes before the break. Stuart Roberts latched on to Kevin Nugent’s header to steer the ball past Andy Warrington from close range. Fortune-West headed off-target from close in following a JJ Melligan cross to end the first half. Eleven minutes into the second period Rovers drew level, as Brown ran on to a McIndoe pass to beat Murphy with a right-foot shot. Straight away Warrington was forced to block a Roberts drive and 20 minutes from time Brown was denied a second goal by Murphy’s excellent save. The Swans keeper repeated the trick with nine minutes to play, before Steve Howard made a crucial clearance from a Brown header. Finally, Murphy made another fine stop deep into injury-time to deny sub Adebayo Akinfenwa and ensure that the game ended 1-1. Planet Football Report Doncaster Rovers extended their lead of the top of the Third Division to six points over Hull City following a 1-1 draw against Swansea City at Vetch Field. Despite a bright start from the high-flying Yorkshire visitors, it was the Welsh outfit who struck first shortly before the half time interval. The home side took the lead on 39 minutes, somewhat against the run of play, when Kevin Nugent’s long ball was driven home by Stuart Roberts (pictured) past Andy Warrington. The league leaders struck back shortly after the break when Chris Brown collected Michael McIndoe’s square ball before beating keeper Brian Murphy. The point keeps the Belle Vue outfit clear at the summit of the table, although the draw does little for Swansea’s play-off hopes with The Swans still seven adrift of sixth place. |
