Swans Sign Playing Trio |
We may not have a manager at the moment but that has not stopped the club entering into the transfer market on deadline day and picking up three signings as we look for the unlikely play off space that technically is still in our grasp former Welsh Under-21 international Leyton Maxwell until the end of the season at Vetch Field. Leyton Maxwell, the former Liverpool trainee, who left the Anfield club in July 2001 to join Cardiff City, failed to hold down a first team place at Ninian Park and his contract was then terminated by The Bluebirds three months ago. The 24-year-old had a trial with The Swans in December and he has now joined on non-contract terms – with a view to kick-starting his career with the Division Three side. “All I want to do is settle down and get some first team action,” said Maxwell. “I miss first team football and now I hope that Swansea will give me the chance to play competitive football.” He will be joined by Brentford left back Lee Fieldwick, who joins The Swans on loan until the end of the season, as well as Millwall defender Matthew Rees. Meanwhile, on the manager front the club have put to be rumours that suspended Oxford boss Ian Atkins is being lined up for a stint at the Vetch and West Brom have said that there has been no contact with regards to Frank Burrows who is believed to be wanted to head a possible three or four man management team for next season The club are rumoured to now be targetting Burrows as their first choice with possibly Alan Curtis and John Cornforth also linking in to assist Burrows. Despite the departure of both Brian Flynn and Kevin Reeves a week ago from the Vetch it has been a busy transfer deadline day and the squad looks stronger because of it. Former Swan Lenny Johnrose has joined Burnley and not Macclesfield as widely expected |
