No Surprises So Far |
Connolly who arrived at the Vetch on a one year deal last summer has hardly featured this season through injury. A choice in Brian Flynn’s first line up of the new season we soon saw the injury problems kicking in that we were warned about last summer by QPR fans and Kenny Jackett has clearly seen no difference now to the player that he and Ian Holloway decided to release last summer. Just six starts were made by Connolly this term with a further six on top as substitute with a return of two goals sees him released from the Vetch having already played his last game for the club. Richard Jones was another one of those decisions, a la Craig Stiens last year when he was brought in on a season long loan only to find himself a player in a LDV tie together with a couple of appearances warming the bench. He has been told that he can return to Southampton leaving us to wonder why we decided to bring him in in the first place? The full extent of the release list is expected to be known over the course of the next week or so with several players possibly facing their last game for the club, if not already done so. Tomorrow could also see the end of a Swansea era with Roger Freestone facing the axe after thirteen years between the sticks for the Swans. He will start against York with Brian Murphy out injured and it could turn out to be an emotional farewell for the man who arrived from Chelsea back in September 1991 Along with Michael Howard, Kevin Nugent, Kristian O’Leary, Jonathan Coates, Stuart Roberts, Stuart Jones and Matthew Rees they all face a wait before knowing their fate, they will hope as soon as possible. It could be an interesting few days at planet Vetch. |
