Was Jackett Right????

So just to confirm the released players are Roger Freestone, Kevin Nugent, Jonathan Coates, Michael Howard and Stuart Roberts, along with Karl Connolly, Richard Jones and Leyton Maxwell. Two players have been offered deals – Stuart Jones and Kristian O’Leary. I’ll start off with Howard and Coates – They had to go, simply not good enough this season for us. A change of club will do them both good. Kevin Nugent – I thought he would get a one year deal myself, in the last few games of the season, I thought Kev did okay and impressed in parts. I thought he had a good season, in which he scored 11 goals and had many assists. Nugent being released seems to suggest even more to me that maybe Iwan Roberts is going to be coming down here next season. Stuart Roberts – Didn’t do anything to impress me since he’s come back – except the Doncaster game at home, I know he wasn’t really given a chance and maybe should have been given a 3 month contract or something similar to try and prove that he is worthy of a longer deal – but it wasn’t to be unfortunately. I move on to finally Roger Freestone – Swansea City Legend. I was gutted when I found out Roger was released, he was 19 league appearances short of the Swansea record as well. Roger has been great for Swansea City, he’s turned down many moves since he’s been here, Roger is a Jack.I accept that there’s nothing anyone can do now because he’s gone, but the timing I felt was wrong. What I feel maybe should have happened is that it was announced that the York game would be Roger’s last for Swansea and all the fans could have said thanks, goodbye and good luck to Rog. Instead now he’s just been released and left quietly. So the two who have been offered deals are O’Leary – who I think has deserved one on his recent performances, but hasn’t done a great deal on the whole this season. But where is K’OL going to play? He can’t play in the centre of defence as that will be Tate and Izzy’s place. And Robinson and Martinez will play in the centre of midfield? Also well done to Stuart Jones, this is his chance to show people what he can do. I am writing this before I know what’s happening to the contracted players but I really hope that James Thomas isn’t one of the players that are told to go. Thomas has had a season of injuries and has been on the bench most of the time. Him and Flynn did not get along & he never played, I feel he can do a job for us even though he has Trundle, Connor and maybe even Iwan Roberts to contend with. Hylton is the other player who is rumoured to have his contract cancelled, how he ever had a two year deal I don’t know, he’s always injured and hardly ever plays, it wouldn’t bother me too much if Hylton were to leave. As for next season I suppose I am pretty confident, let’s wait now for pre-season, see who Jackett brings in and let’s go and hopefully we can make a real go of Division 3 next season.
