Roger Returns To His Roots |
Roger Freestone’s career today went full circle when he returned to his roots and signed a contract that will make him a Newport player once again next season. Roger has decided to overlook the offers that were on the table for him from other clubs including Rushden and Diamonds and sign for Newport where he began his career in the mid 1980s. Roger sees this as the perfect foil for his new business which he is starting up in his home area and the contract with Newport will allow him to build this in preparation for the day when he finally hangs up his goalkeeping gloves. Freestone was released from the Vetch after 13 years at the end of last season and has taken a few weeks to listen to the offers that have been on the table which could easily have given him a return to the Vetch next season wearing the number one jersey but emerging from the away dressing room. However, the offer from Newport was on the table early after his release and whilst Peter Nicholas was on holiday it gave the former Swansea man chance to think over what his future held and he has decided that this is the move that he wants to make and today put his signature on the Newport contract creating the sense of deja vu. I’m sure that all Swansea fans will wish Roger the best in his new surroundings and what’s the betting on a Vetch return next season in the FAW Premier Cup? |
