Luton Still In Dark Over Forbes Move |
The full report reads as follows: – LUTON are still in the dark over Adrian Forbes’ proposed move to Swansea City. The pacy forward’s future hinges on a critical medical at the Vetch Field Stadium – in the same week Luton Town withdraw their ‘take it or leave it’ contract offer. Forbes, 25, was understood to have agreed in principle to a two-year deal to play for the Welsh side last weekend before going on holiday. But Luton still hold the player’s registration and insist they have not been contacted by Forbes, his agent or Swansea City about the move. The former Norwich City man, along with midfielders Matthew Spring, Paul Hughes, Ahmet Brkovic and defender Emmerson Boyce, are all out of contract but were offered fresh terms by Luton’s new owners. Those contract offers expire tomorrow and two days later Forbes, who missed most of the 2002/3 season after cruciate knee ligament surgery, must undergo a thorough medical examination to secure his move to Swansea. If he were to fail the medical Forbes would be left in limbo with neither Luton Town nor Swansea City offers on the table. It would be a sad end to brilliant season for the 14-goal striker. Signed by Joe Kinnear from Norwich in the summer of 2001 for รยฃ65,000 as a right winger, Forbes played an integral part in Luton’s promotion winning side, establishing himself as a first team regular. Due to injuries and Tony Thorpe’s transfer to QPR, Forbes was asked to play up-front by current boss Mike Newell and he didn’t disappoint – netting 10 goals in 11 appearances. Despite the emergence of Enoch Showunmi in attack and Kevin Foley in his preferred position of right wing, Forbes was expected to extend his stay at Luton Town and news that he was dropping down a division to join Swansea surprised his manager Newell who last week insisted Forbes still had a future at the Hatters. |
