Mansfield Fixture Changed |
The move is forced upon the club due to the long awaited clash between England and Wales in the qualifying group for the 2006 World Cup. The match, expected to take place at October will be played on the Saturday with a 3pm kick off seemingly likely for the game. The news will no doubt bring absolute joy to the Mansfield fans, some of whom are still seething over the alleged late decision to reduce their ticket allocation for the match at the Vetch last season – a game which the Swans won 4-1. They are unlikely to bring a huge travelling support to Swansea – not that they ever have – and it is now almost guaranteed that they will be allocated the Jewson stand for the game, same as last year. No announcement has been made yet by the club with regards the Macclesfield game which is scheduled for 26 March – the same date that Wales play Austria, although it is expected that this too will be brought forward to the Friday evening. Meanwhile there is transfer news on two former Swans today. Michael Keegan has signed for Rhyl in time for their Champions League qualifying tie against Skonto Riga. Keegan started off as a teenager at the Vetch before spells with both Kidderminster and Marine but he will now play his part in Europe’s Premier Cup Competition. Winger Stuart Roberts will join Conference Champions Chester City on a non contract basis as he looks to resurrect his league career that was ended temporarily when he was released from the Vetch at the end of last season. Another alleged Swans target, Iwan Roberts, today completed his move to Gillingham as player/coach. Roberts will be officially unveiled at a press conference at Priestfield on Thursday. |
