Margetson Would Be A Great Signing

Of course it may not happen but if it is then Swans fans have every reason to see their optimism level rise ahead of next season. Margetson is a quality goalkeeper who stood out in Cardiff’s season last year and rightfully got many plaudits for his performances in the first division.

Ignore the rantings of a few Cardiff fans who have turned on him for not signing the contract in front of him, these will be the same Cardiff fans who would sing his name last season. Maybe it’s the fact that Swansea have offered him longer term security that grinds with them or maybe it’s the fact that all of a sudden not every player is taken in by Sam’s dream of Premiership success and untold riches (all borrowed of course)

Margeston deservedly won a Welsh Cap against Canada and ignore the shite spouted that he will get overlooked if he drops two divisions. Mark Hughes does not work like that – Roger Freestone and Darran Barnard are examples of lower league players winning international honours. Hughes works to the principle that if you are good enough it matters not what league you play in.

Wales international Mark Crossley spoke to the Western Mail about Margeston, saying

“If I was in Cardiff’s position, I would definitely want to keep Martyn. He wouldn’t disgrace himself in the Premier League. I don’t know what’s going on between Martyn and Cardiff. That’s between the player and the club.

“But he’s now out of contract, which means the club is in danger of losing him. He’s in a good position because I would say, barring injury, that he’s got eight or nine years left in him.

“He’s good enough to be in the Premiership and he did really well in his first match for Wales. He would be a real asset at any club.”

And I couldn’t agree more with him. Margetson himself has said that his family comes first, a principle that the former incumbent of our number one shirt always worked with, and if that means he wants the security of the three years we have offered him then he has to remember that money isn’t everything and I believe he is thinking of that principle at the moment.

“I have to sit down after all this with my family over the weekend and discuss what’s best for us,” said Margetson

“I love playing for Cardiff City, but my family has always come first and there’s no change in that. I need to weight things up and take stock.”

If Margetson does sign then we have a more than capable replacement for Roger at last and someone again that Brian Murphy can learn from. We also have someone that will bring confidence to our defence and maybe once again we can have some tightness at the back which will always make our lives easier.

Get your man Kenny, it will prove some of your doubters wrong. Listen to a different dream Martyn – this one is less likely to turn into a nightmare!
