Injury Problems Mount For Swans

Forbes joins Izzy Iriekpen, Lee Trundle and Kris O’Leary on the sidelines although he is expected to be fit for the opening game of the league season – against Northampton on Saturday week and O’Leary could well feature before the tour is over.

Trundle is expected to be close to fitness ahead of the Northampton game but with no appearances under his belt in the seven games may well have to settle for a place on the bench come opening day. Brad Maylett should return to action in tomorrow’s second match of the tour.

”Adrian’s picked up a contact injury which shouldn’t last any time really,” the Swansea boss told the Evening Post, ”but it might well keep him out for the remainder of this trip. ”I don’t see him being a problem for Northampton on the first day of the season, though, which is the important thing."

On the subject of Trundle, Jackett was full of praise for last season’s top scorer

"We had to send him to a specialist halfway through his rehabilitation. Things weren’t progressing too well.

”I very much doubt if Lee will play out here, but he hasn’t half worked hard fitness-wise. ”Looking at him now and looking at some old pictures of him around the place, I don’t know whether its the haircut but you can see he has recognised the responsibility he has to work hard. ”When he does come back it wouldn’t surprise me if he goes and does very well.”

Jackett refused to blame trialist goalkeeper Willy Gueret for the mix up with Kevin Austin which resulted in the hosts scoring their equaliser ”I thought Willy was solid and I’ll be interested to hear what he says about their goal. He was backing off trying to collect a cross and fell into one of his colleagues and the ball spilled out as he landed. ”I wouldn’t say he’s damaged his chances of getting a contract. It’s a bit early to say what we’ll be doing, but I need to speak to him this week to sort the situation out.”

Meanwhile, former Swans defender Michael Howard has signed a contract with non-league Morecambe after his release from the Vetch last season.
