Trundle Back At Double

Two goals in three league games so far is a statistic that will worry Swans fans and many have made the comment that the return to fitness of Lee Trundle is a major factor in determining our success or not this season. Some have commented that Daps won’t be suited to Kenny Jackett’s style of play but Trundle stakes his own claim and did so tonight with a two goal display at the Vetch for the reserves against Bristol Rovers.

Granted it was not enough to prevent the reserves going down by four goals to two but the return of their talisman striker – minus dodgy hairdo and with a reduced waistline – will give supporters a lift ahead of Saturday’s visit of Cheltenham with Kenny Jackett still searching for his first Vetch win as manager of the club.

Trundle’s two goals fired Swansea into a two goal lead during the first half. As Swansea passed (thats right – passed!) the ball around, Thomas chested down a cross into the Rovers penalty area and it was Trundle who controlled the ball with his chest and blasted it into the top corner of the goal. Daps was back. Before long he had doubled the advantage when he fired home a penalty after Dennis Oli had had his shirt tugged in the area. No mistake from last season’s leading scorer and the Swans were seemingly on their way.

Izzy Iriekpen was also making his return to action after his injury lay off and there were also places for Roberto Martinez and Brad Maylett as well as both Thomas and Oli as mentioned above.

With a 2 goal lead it looked as if Swansea would wrap up the game by half time but, as with the first team on too many occasions, they became sloppy and a goal before the interval allowed Rovers back into a game that for a long period they looked to be completely out of especially with the goal being gifted by a mix up in the Swansea defence.

The second half was a different story with Rovers completely in control and, aided by more generosity they added three more goals without reply during this period. Both Trundle and Izzy were taken off on the hour mark but not before Daps in particular had made it very difficult for Jackett to ignore his claims for inclusion on the weekend.

Are we about to see the same Lee Trundle that we saw 12 months ago? To a man reading this, we all hope so!
