Wales Up 7 Places In Latest Rankings |
With the start of qualifying for the World Cup in 2006 just three days away, FIFA latest ranking system shows Wales up 7 places to 57th in the World, the third biggest climb on the month of any side in the World. Mark Hughes men are currently preparing for qualifiers against Azerbaijan on Saturday and Northern Ireland next Wednesday, both sides ranked significantly below them and the requirement of picking us six points from these two fixtures is a must. Wales’ ranking is their highest of this year although it does not compare to the Top 50 spot that they obtained in the early part of 2003 and nowhere near their best ranking of 27 obtained in both 1993 and 1994. However, it does compare most favourably with their ranking at the turn of the Millennium of 98 and their lowest ranking of 113, a level sunk to in September 2000. FIFA RANKINGS SEPTEMBER 2004 1.
