Smells Like Jack Spirit

Long gone is the cavalier its a knockout football of at the start of last season, a very warm welcome to reality and to this is how championships are won football courtesy of Mr Jackett and Co.

There will of course be some on here (and elsewhere in the capital’s media) just waiting for the merest of hiccups so that the pro flynn rhetoric can begin again in earnest. How dare those Jacks get rid of one of our own especially one who favoured us at the various bars up and down the land.

Championships are about winning football matches and the Jack Army are beginning to get very proficient in this minor of details. 5 wins in 6 and suddenly all the doubts have, if not exactly gone away, you sense a growing feeling that “hey, hang on if we can glue the undoubted skill in the squad to what is without doubt fast becoming the best defence seen at the Vetch for sometime, then maybe just maybe we can start the new season in Dave in League 1”

An excellent attendance at the Vetch yesterday and it sums up the growing feeling that something is happening at the Vetch, If we stay in the race, and there’s nothing to suggest we can’t, then as the season comes to an end and the thought of the last matches at the Old Lady coupled with a promotion chase and we have the proverbial Bearpit for away teams to endure.

It may have missed the attention of some maybe even most but the Jack Army have already played 3 of the top 6 (excl ourselves) and all of them away. Given that there will be one or two sides coming into contention such as Notts Cty and the Cobblers the top 10 will not change much now until May and so we are right in the mix.

25 Exiles in Paltalk today and this on a Home match, there is the feeling of anticipation now and you can feel it growing game by game and its all due to the confidence of the Back Four and of course Big Willy. As yet not one of the defensive signings of Mr Jackett has disappointed and they as a group are growing stronger and stronger as the season goes on.

The side is even starting to put together glimpses of the stylish football at the start of last season and this will return in full flow shortly, again you can sense the anticipation growing day by day by the players as they get used to the new gaffer and him to them, it wont be long before they get given their freedom to express.

A good following is no doubt guaranteed next weekend against Chester and then comes Mr Curle who if he thinks the Vetch is noisy at the weekend best he gets his ears muffs ready for night football at the Vetch when it gets twice as loud again.

One or two more signings I think will arrive at the Vetch before Christmas and i do think the Jigsaw is then in place for the real blast at the title (yes that’s right) chase in 2005. There is no one to fear in this League and few clubs will relish coming to the Vetch as the season unfolds.

I boldly predicted that this season would be a slow burner for us and that is how it is turning out to be, last year we said Oct-Dec will tell us what type of season in store lay ahead. This season we will be professional I cannot see us having the nose dive that we suffered last year.
