O’Leary Wins Award

Kristian O’Leary has defied his previous critics and taken a deserved award as PFA player of the month for League Two in September.

Following on from previous Swans winners Leon Britton and Lee Trundle, O’Leary was voted for by the online Swans support and achieved more votes than anyone else in the division following a campaign started here two weeks ago.

He will be presented with his award at a home game in the near future by a regular of JackArmy.net – guvnor81 – whose name was drawn out of the hat from all the people who cast their votes for Kris.

O’leary has revelled in his new midfield role under Kenny Jackett and is an ever present in the side this season as they have climbed to 2nd in the table. Criticised by many sections of the Swansea support in the past, O’Leary has proved to be the rock of the midfield and has also been very unlucky not to open his goal account this season.

It is always pleasing to see a Swans player pick up any form of award but maybe even more so on this occasion because of the criticism that Kris has received in the past. He has played a good part of many seasons at the Vetch and I firmly believe that on many occasions he has been made a scapegoat for poor team performances by the supporters. Now with an award that the fans have voted him to win we can look forward to an O’Leary going strength to strength.

Commenting on the award, a PFA spokesman said “It takes something, or someone, special to keep Swansea legend Lee Trundle out of the limelight for a change, and the performances of Kristian O’Leary have not gone unnoticed down at the Vetch.

“Under Kenny Jackett, the Swans are looking a major force in League Two this season and their push for promotion has been boosted by the former of Player of the Month O’Leary who continues to grow in stature with every game. ”

Other winners of the award were

Premiership – Jose Antonio Reyes (Arsenal)

Championship – Adam Virgo (Brighton)

League One – Leroy Lita (Bristol City)

Well done Kris!
