As part of our celebration regarding the end of an era on the Vetch Field, we are asking fans of the Swans and all clubs to share their views on the Vetch. Some of these views will be shared with brief one liners, others in more detail.
In the first of this series, we asked the question, “If you could take part of the Vetch home with you what would it be and why” This is some of the responses we have had to date
“I would take home the Six Yard Box Turf because that is the home of Big Rog”
Michael Lazell, Waunarlwydd
“The Centre Stand clock is always five minutes fast but it is the only think worth having at the Vetch”
Matthew Phillips, Swansea
“The clock has looked down on so many classic matches and has seen so many things”
Blaine Llewellyn, Newport
“I’ll be taking home the piece of concrete where I stand simply because it is mine!”
Neil Regan, Swansea
“Has to be the centre stand clock. I’ve looked at it so many times, sometimes desperate for it to move on, sometimes hoping it stands still so that we can score in the time remaining. The funny thing is it rarely shows the same time”
Sharon Goodwin, Sketty
“It will have to be a piece of turf that I can plant in my garden as a momento for the old lady”
Michael, Gorseinon
“If I could take the clock and stop the hands moving at precisely the moment the referee blows his whistle to bring an end to the final league game that would be perfect”
Dai, Swansea
“I’ll take the home team bench, think it would look nice in the living room”
James Lewis, Swansea
“I’d like to take a wooden board from the back of the North Bank so that I can have a piece of it with me for the rest of my life”
Phil Richards, Carmarthen
“Taking home the atmosphere would be good – it makes me feel great and so happy that I have experienced so many times down the Vetch”
Matthew Passmore, Gowerton
“I’d like the railings that I sat on as a kid as I am sure it has my arse indentations on them”
Warren, Bournemouth (ex of Swansea)
“I’d like to take the West goal posts because in every dream I ever have, that is where I score whilst playing for the Swans, All my favourite goals were scored there, most of them in front of the away fans”
Jeremy Harding, Tring
“The sign which says official player entrance – it’s one of the unique things an entrance between the houses. And it does remind me of the old lady which lives in the house beside that entrance”
Jurgen, The Netherlands
“I’d like to take an original brick. I would clean it up, polish it, put a plaque on it and put it on my mantelpiece”
Gerry Duggan, Swansea
These are just a sample of the responses we have received to date. Over the course of the next six months we will be bringing you more and more of these as well as elaborating from some of the authors of these memories. Keep checking back over the next six months as these will become very nearly a daily occurrence here on jackarmy.net
