Veteran front man Steve Claridge is rumoured to be a target for Swansea City as they look to end their lack of goals with the signing of a proven goalscorer.
Claridge, 38, left his management position at Weymouth recently through ‘mutual consent’ and has revealed to the BBC that he has spoken to three conference and two football league clubs as he plans to turn his back on management for the time being believing that he can still play at that level for at least 18 months.
The rumour suggests that Claridge has been in discussions with Kenny Jackett over the possibility of a move to the Vetch Field with Dagenham and Redbridge and Forest Green Rovers also supposedly interested in securing the services of a player who has notched over 200 goals in his career which took in clubs including Birmingham, Leicester, Portsmouth and Millwall.
Claridge left Weymouth two weeks ago after his side made a poor start to the season after being expected to challenge for promotion in the conference south division.
Claridge himself declared in his newspaper column in the People that leaving Weymouth could be a blessing in disguise and stated he would still back himself to score goals at Championship level let alone League Two.
Whether he is in talks with Jackett remains to be seen or indeed whether we sign this one and of course we add the final line that like all rumours it could prove to have nothing in it at all.
