Calderwood Says No Interest |
Northampton manager Colin Calderwood has said that his ‘interest’ in Kristian O’Leary is nothing more than his agent creating interest to get the player away from Swansea, potentially to Macclesfield. Reports in last weekend’s newspapers suggested that both Northampton and Macclesfield were interested in taking O’Leary away from the Vetch when his contract expires at the end of this season. But speaking to Northants News today, Calderwood said "I’m going to ring him up and have a word with him, if he wants to create some interest in his player, he should do it by doing his own job. I think the agent has made the story up at that end because we’ve certainly not been in contact with Swansea about Kristian O’Leary. "He’s an experienced agent and he’s doing his job properly. He has named us and Macclesfield because he wants to get him a move to Macclesfield." Elsey is a self confessed Swans fan which begs the question as to why he would want to see players leave the Vetch and creates this interest unless of course he is haggling with the Swans to ensure the maximum for his player next season. Either way the timing of the ‘interest’ is strange to say the least especially when you consider the plight that the Swans find themselves in at the moment with wins few and far between as they look to gain promotion from League Two. The unsettling of one of their players is the last thing that any Swans fan would want at this moment in time. But it does appear that Calderwood has no interest in the player which starts to beg the question whether Macclesfield do as well or whether that is another fabricated story to try and push Swansea into immediately offering a new contract to a player who has impressed this season. O’Leary is of course not the only Swansea player out of contract at the end of the season and the norm has now become for few contracts to be offered until the season ends which could be much later for the Swans this season then normal due to potential involvement in the play offs alongside their appearance in the FAW final courtesy of their penalty win over TNS last week. Co-incidentally the Swans next two games are against Northampton and Macclesfield – how convenient if they are supposedly interested? Meanwhile reports in Boston have suggested that they may be interested in Swans winger Brad Maylett who has found himself out of the first team after a string of indifferent performances. The reports have suggested that the Swans have given the Pilgrims permission to speak to him with a view to a possible move – maybe even before next week’s transfer deadline.
