Are we doomed? Of course not! Sure, we are having a poor run of results at the moment, losing to teams that we should beat, but all teams go through that phase, it just seems that we are going through ours now. Remember when Scunthorpe went through theirs? We all said “That’s it! Scunny are out of the running now” and where are they at this moment in time? Second! They have started playing again and getting the results. I am certain that the Swans will start picking up soon and getting the points that we so desperately need to get out of this division.

So, let me ask you a question. If you transport yourselves back to that sunny afternoon in August as we prepared to play Northampton and someone said to you that we would be in fifth place just two points off automatic promotion with nine games to go, what would you have said? Personally I would have taken that and would be happy with the progress that we have made since the dark days of not so long ago.

I think that the “mistake” we made was to stay in the top 3 for most of the season as that has now raised everyone’s expectations, maybe if we had stayed in the chasing pack or just outside it for the majority of the season, and then made a late surge into the automatic spots or playoffs, those same people that are now moaning would be declaring “Wow! Aren’t we great!”

Some people seem to have short memories. It was only a couple of years ago that we had the Cullis, Ninth Floor, Petty and relegation scenarios. We are light years removed from those dark times and thank goodness we now have a much better setup. We have a board which cares about the club and whilst being prudent, still manage to bring in new players. We have a bright young manager who is destined for great things, hopefully with the Swans, we have the strongest squad anyone can remember for a long time, we have our new stadium which looks more and more impressive by the day, we have the highest attendances – need I go on? Contrast this with the situation our pals in the east find themselves and the plight of Wrexham. Give me our situation anytime.

So can we please get some perspective on our current overall position and remember another phrase from L/Cpl Jones of Dads Army “Don’t Panic! Don’t Panic!”

STID!
